Nomad Supply
The Nomad Supply Shop was a boutique and hangout located at 916 23rd Street South. The store was founded in 2008 by Beau Armistead. The shop grew out of his traveling vendor business which he operated at Grateful Dead, Phish, and Widespread Panic concerts. It closed in June 2010 as Armistead and his wife Ashley pursued a goal of opening Nomad's Land, a retreat for rest and spiritual growth near Attalla.
The purpose of the store was to provide a comfortable place for people to hang out and find unique items such as handmade clothes, artwork, body products, jewelry and gifts. The store offered free coffee and tea as well as wireless internet service. The store's coffee was imported from Rwanda through a Minnesota non-profit that works with coffee growers directly.
Armistead also used the store to promote his Luxury Fund, an appeal for people to divert the money they would spend on small daily luxuries like coffee or ice cream toward international relief and justice causes.
