Randy Lee Merritt (born Durham, North Carolina)

Merritt is the son of Leroy and Inez Jarrell Merritt of North Carolina. He worked at Southern Research Institute for twenty-five years, developing innovations in pollution control technologies used in power plants. After retiring, he continued to consult for the coal-fired electrical generation industry.

Merritt has the south's largest collection of World's Fair memorabilia, some of which has been displayed in the Birmingham Public Library. His also collects a variety of Birmingham memorabilia, Vulcan memorabilia, and an assortment of other antiques.

He and his partner, Gary Horne, reside in the restored Mortimer Jordan residence on Highland Avenue.
