Randy Norton

Randy D. Norton (born c. 1960 in Iowa City, Iowa) is the head coach for the UAB Blazers women's basketball team, having been hired to succeed Audra Smith in 2013.

Norton was a varsity basketball and baseball player for the University of Iowa. As a sophomore, he played on Lute Olsen's 1980 Final Four team. While in college, Norton signed as a pitching prospect with the Montreal Expos and played three seasons in the minor leagues before going finishing his degree in 1986 and going into coaching.

Norton coached boys' basketball at Assumption High School in Assumption, Iowa for 14 seasons. He compiled a 230-95 record with two state titles and was twice honored as Iowa Coach of the Year. In 2002, Norton joined Robin Pingeton's staff at Illinois State University. He coached seven seasons there and moved with Pingeton to the University of Missouri in 2009. He was promoted to associate head coach for the Lady Tigers in 2012. He was hired as UAB's new head women's basketball coach in April 2013.

Norton and his wife, Claire, have four children: Tom, Carly, Allie and Nick.
