Sandra Little Brown

Sandra Faye Mixon Little Brown (born June 4, 1955) is the owner of JJ's T-shirts & Team World, a former Birmingham City Council member, and currently president pro tem and representative of District 2 on the Jefferson County Commission.

Sandra was the daughter of Zack Mixon Jr and Eva Mae Mixon. She grew up in Lipscomb and graduated from Wenonah High School in 1973 and attended Lawson State Community College. She opened her apparel shop in 1990. She was active in community and civic organizations and founded the political action committee Team Seven in 1996, then ran to represent District 7 in the 1997 Birmingham City Council election (the first to be conducted by district). She served one term before turning over the seat to Bert Miller in the 2001 election. She ran unsuccessfully for her old seat in the 2005 Birmingham City Council election.

Brown defeated five other candidates in the 2010 Democratic primary to fill the Jefferson County Commission District 2 seat left open when Shelia Smoot decided to run for U.S. Congress. She stood for re-election in 2014, facing four challengers, including Smoot. During the campaign she offered a cash reward to anyone who could prove that she had voted to close down Cooper Green Mercy Hospital while serving on the commission.

Challenger Sheila Tyson forced Brown into a runoff in the 2018 Democratic primary. In campaign flyers distributed on car windshields outside churches, Brown claimed that her candidacy was "supported by Jesus Christ and his followers."

Brown is a Sunday School teacher and deaconess at Mt Zion Baptist Church in Riley. She was a member of the Leadership Birmingham class of 2000. She is married to Elbert Brown and has four children: Lannard, Latrice, Jerome, and Jerome Jr. In 2012 Brown was diagnosed with breast cancer.
