Santosh Khare
Santosh Kumar Khare (born May 8, 1938 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India; died July 17, 2014 in Hoover) was chief of pediatrics at Cooper Green Hospital and the first chair of the Hindu Temple and Cultural Center in Pelham.
Khare, the son of Sri Chandra Kant Prasad and Savitri Devi, studied medicine at the King George Medical College. He worked as a staff physician for Indian Railways before immigrating to the United States in 1966. He completed a residency in pediatric at the State University of New York in Brooklyn and then practiced in New Jersey, New York and Nashville, Tennessee before moving to Birmingham. He came here in 1972 as a neonatal specialist and trained residents for Children's Hospital. He helped found the Jefferson Clinic at Cooper Green Hospital and was later promoted to chief of staff for pediatrics. He retired from Cooper Green in 2001.
Khare died in 2014. He was survived by his wife, Pratibha, two children and five grandchildren.
