Shelby McEwen

Shelby McEwen (born April 6, 1996 in Abbeville, Mississippi) is an American track and field athlete who won the silver medal in men's high jump at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Shelby is the son of Michael and Sharon McEwen. He played basketball and participated in four consecutive station champion track and field teams at Oxford High School and was state champion in the high jump. He enrolled at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, and was a member of the Rangers basketball team while continuing to participate in track meets as an unattached competitor.

In 2018 McEwen began competing with the Alabama Crimson Tide. He finished 2nd in the high jump at the NCAA indoor championships that year. He was the 2nd ranked collegiate finisher at the summer's USATF National Championships. In 2019 he won the NCAA Indoor Championship high jump competition and was named an All-American in both indoor and outdoor competition. He ranked as the 1st non-qualifier in the final at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar.

McEwen finished third in the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials and participated as part of Team USA at the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. He placed 4th in the qualifying round and finished in 12th place. He returned to Team USA in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris and advanced to a tie with Hamish Kerr of New Zealand with jumps of 2.36 meters. Both athletes opted to continue with a jump-off, which Kerr won in the 12th round with the bar lowered to 2.34 meters.
