St Benedict Veterans Center

St Benedict's Veterans Center is a shelter for homeless veterans located at 5704 1st Avenue North in Woodlawn and operated by Three Hots and a Cot, a non-profit organization founded by J. D. Simpson.

The center occupies a historic house leased to the group at a nominal cost by the adjacent Grace Episcopal Church. It opened on May 10, 2010 and provides shelter for up to 13 veterans in four bedrooms. The shelter maintains strict rules for conduct, mirroring military discipline, and provides references to other service organizations for job training, medical treatment, counseling and transportation.

Former Navy SEAL Mike Campbell was the first resident to move into the center, and quickly became an active volunteer.
