State Veterans Home Pell City

The State Veterans Home Pell City is a proposed nursing home to be built and operated by the Alabama Department of Veterans Affair on a 27-acre site it owns in Pell City. It would be the fourth such home operated by the department.

The home is being designed for 180 skilled nursing beds and 80 assisted living beds. Clusters of rooms will be arranged into "neighborhoods" centered around shared living spaces with fireplaces and televisions as well as a large dining hall, and other amenities, including a barber's shop and chapel.

The project is expected to be contracted in 2010 and to cost more than $40 million, of which $26 million may come from a federal grant.
