Stephanie Hicks
Stephanie Hicks (born 1971) is the founder and executive director of Restorative Strategies.
Hicks grew up in Leeds and earned a bachelor of science in human resource management and a master's in management at Faulkner University in Montgomery in 2001.
In June 2007 Hicks was elected as president of the American Federation of Government Employees, Local 2207 at the Birmingham VA Medical Center, and served in that position until June 2013. In 2015 she pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $92,000 from the union's bank accounts and was ordered by Judge Karon Bowdre to pay full restitution and to serve six months in federal prison.
After her release, Hicks enrolled in The Dannon Project to prepare for re-entering the workforce, and began working with the Offender Alumni Association as administrative director. In 2018 she was appointed to serve as one of three co-chairs of Mayor Randall Woodfin's "Reentry Task Force" and also served on the Birmingham Safe Neighborhoods Task Force.
In November 2018 Hicks was hired as vice president of Community Care Development Network. 2019 she began working as an instructor for the JumpStartAL virtual learning program for Jefferson County Jail inmates through Lawson State Community College and founded her own Restorative Strategies that year.
Hicks chaired Felicia Rucker-Sumerlin's unsuccessful 2022 campaign for Jefferson County Sheriff.
