Stephen Higley

Stephen Richard Higley (born 1949) is a former associate professor of urban geography at the University of Montevallo and former publisher of the "Higley 1000" website, documenting high-income neighborhoods in the United States.

Higley grew up in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and graduated from Wauwatosa East High School in 1967. He completed a bachelor's degree in Spanish and Portuguese history at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 1971, having spent a junior year abroad at Durham University studying history and geography. He went on to earn a master's in business administration with a concentration in marketing at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in 1975. He returned for a PhD in urban geography in 1991.

Higley began his academic career as an assistant professor at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. He moved to Montevallo in 1995 and remained there until his retirement in 2012. In retirement he relocated to Tucson, Arizona.
