- Most likely a coincidence, but worth noting: Chambers County farmer John Howard Parnell was, like his brother, Irish Nationalist politician Charles Stewart Parnell, born at Avondale House in County Wicklow, Ireland. Parnell farmed cotton and peaches in Chambers County from 1867-91. Both he and his brother visited Birmingham in 1872 and had some interest in investing in the iron industry here. Charles took it as a bad omen that his train derailed just outside of town and John had nothing good to say about his stay at the Relay House. The Irish Avondale is named for its location on the River Avonmore (Irish: "Abhainn", meaning "river" + "Mór", meaning "big") --Dystopos 08:39, 25 July 2010 (PDT)
