New Merkel School

A September 10, 1997 article in The Birmingham News ("Cahaba Heights And New Merkel Alumni Seek Info On School History") says E. A. Hollis became principal in 1946. This would seem to contradict the date currently in the article. --Lkseitz 11:31, 7 April 2014 (PDT)

  • Not sure how to resolve that. I know a large number of young men did leave their jobs to enlist in the early 1940s, so maybe he left and returned? Like Sherlock Holmes, we need more data. --Dystopos 12:55, 7 April 2014 (PDT)
    • Hollis was principal from 1947 to 1967. (I reckon he may have been offered the job in 1946). --Dystopos (talk) 17:48, 11 April 2022 (PDT)

Pro- and anti-annexation groups

The story bits I had access to did not make it clear if the Cahaba Heights Incorporation Committee was a new group or a renamed version of the Cahaba Heights Neighborhood Association. A search of the News archives returns no results for the CHNA after the first use of the CHIC, which would seem to strongly indicate that they did indeed simply rename themselves. --Lkseitz 12:38, 7 April 2014 (PDT)

Merkel

  • "Merkel" appears to be much the more common spelling on maps, and also on Merkel's headstone. --Dystopos (talk) 14:24, 20 August 2018 (PDT)
