Neon

The 1960 article says the new Alabama marquee had "neon tubes" but I dispute this. The 1950s marquee was still in place when I started volunteering. (Actually, it still is, I'm pretty sure.) There's no neon on it. It does, however, have fluorescent tubes lighting up most of it with strips of incandescent chase lights at the top and bottom. The only neon lighting I'm aware of on the Alabama was in the letters of the 3rd Avenue vertical sign. I'm wondering if "neon" was commonly misused for "fluorescent" at the time. --Lkseitz (talk) 21:02, 12 January 2019 (PST)

End date

It's worth noting that the Birmingham Public Library has a copy of the 1970 Berry High School yearbook online containing a photo of Debra McGlohon as part of the freshman class. She is exactly the right age to be Cecil's daughter, Debbie, mentioned in the 1959 article when he started at the Alabama. So his family appears to have stayed in the area until at least then. Whether he still worked at the Alabama I don't know. --Lkseitz (talk) 21:02, 12 January 2019 (PST)
