Demolished?

  • I do not remember the Loveman's Annex being torn down and rebuilt while I was volunteering at the Alabama Theatre next door. I'll have to ask about that.

One thing most people don't know is that, at some point before the '80s, the Alabama Theatre let Loveman's put a doorway through to a room in the Alabama's basement, which was then sealed off on the Alabama side. I was there when Birmingham Landmarks unsealed it. I want to say they also put doors through into the Alabama's office space from the Annex, but I need to double check that. --Lkseitz (talk) 06:07, 11 March 2020 (PDT)

    • That's from Tim Hollis' book and from looking at the building on Google Maps. We could stand some confirmation and more detail overall. --Dystopos (talk) 10:30, 11 March 2020 (PDT)
      • Hmmm. McWane opened in 1998, by which time I was firmly living in Huntsville, so I could have missed it. --Lkseitz (talk) 05:44, 12 March 2020 (PDT)
        • After comparing current Google Street View photos to our 1936 photo of Loveman's, I'd say the probably did rebuild it. The current building is shorter than the original. But I believe they kept the exterior of the first floor because it matches the main building too well. --Lkseitz (talk) 10:38, 12 March 2020 (PDT)
