I'm not sure how reliable the source is, but I just came across the following on Facebook: "The Piggly Wiggly [at 3000 Independence Drive] was HILL'S grocery up until about the mid to late 1960's, then it was Food Town for about 6-7 years and then became 'the Pig'". --Lkseitz 18:48, 15 May 2011 (PDT)
Earlier locations
There are a number of locations that predate the listed first 4 stores in 1925. According to this Historic Five Points South Walking Tour brochure (archived), Piggly Wiggly first moved to the Five Points neighborhood in 1921 before it moved to the building at 1016 20th St S in 1931. According to this image, it looks like the original Five Points South Piggly Wiggly was at 1030 20th St S, adjacent to the pharmacy that has been at 1032 since 1900 (also according to the brochure). According to the 1924 directory, Piggly Wiggly was already at:
- 100 55th St N. (page 157, where the Mission Possible Bargain Center is currently?)
- 1620 1st Ave N (page 161, currently a construction area at that lot)
- 200 41st St S (page 174, where Saturn is now)
- 1820 4th Ave N. (page 184, currently a parking lot - same as 1812 4th Ave N listed as an "original" in 1925?)
- 2711 7th Ave S (page 229, now part of Tin Roof)
- 108 77th St S (page 230, another parking lot)
- 1202 Tuscaloosa Ave (page 276, another parking lot)
- 3128 12th Ave N (page 280, now a gas station?)
- 300 20th St S (page 286, under construction in 2015)
- 1030 20th St S (as mentioned above, page 287, now Cloud Nine)
- 3007 27th St N (page 303, now DaVita Dialysis)
- 707 19th St., Ensley (page 333, now vacant lot)
- 1800 Pike Ave, Ensley (page 335, now Pike Rd and a gas station).
Page 1155 of the directory gives more info for a Piggly-Wiggly Alabama Co., naming officers, office/warehouse (1620 1st Ave N), telephone (4440), and 21 stores, some of which aren't listed above:

- Store 6 - 1909 2nd Ave Bessemer
- Store 7 - 5007 Gary Ave Fairfield
- Store 8 - 2111 2nd Ave

- Store 13 - 325 19th Bessemer
- Store 15 - 10303 (this appears to be a typo for 1030) S 20th
- Store 16 - 3809 Huntsville Ave Brighton
- Store 17 - 120 Broad Selma
- Store 18 - 200 Spring Avondale (listed above as 200 41st St S)
- Store 20 - 2711 Ave G (listed above as 2711 7th Ave S)
