Order

Just wondering why the decision to change the order of the numbers. Seems like I usually hear it referred to in numerical order, but since I don't live there, I may be misremembering. --Lkseitz (talk) 07:06, 9 February 2016 (PST)

  • I saw somewhere an edict that the "official" designation was 59/20. I probably should have made a note of where I saw it. And even then, it probably violates the spirit of preferring common usage. Will consider and reconsider. --Dystopos (talk) 14:05, 9 February 2016 (PST)
    • Okay, I heard a radio commercial for the I-59/20 bridges site while in Birmingham this weekend. It seems ALDOT prefers I-59/20, which ABC 33/40 is also going with. AL.com and the rest of the television stations seem to prefer I-20/59. My check for preferences of each outlet was entirely non-scientific. --Lkseitz (talk) 12:43, 7 March 2016 (PST)
      • ALDOT has explained that they adopted "59/20" as their official designation in 2015, and that they decided to put 59 first because it was completed first. ("Why did I-20/59 become I-59/20 after 40 years?"). So now, knowing that the "official" explanation is pretty flimsy, I'm open to revisiting our usage. --Dystopos (talk) 10:04, 10 January 2019 (PST)
