The Arc of Central Alabama
The Arc of Jefferson County (formerly the Association for Retarded Citizens of Jefferson County and The Arc of Jefferson County) provides programs and services to developmentally challenged residents of Jefferson County and Blount County. It is a chapter of the ARC of Alabama, founded in 1957. The president is Robert Regulus and the executive director is Bill Hoehle.
The Arc operates its H.O.P.E. program at its Children's Arc Day Care center at 2105 Joyce Street and operates an adult day care and vocational programs at its Tom Leonard Center at 2665 Hackberry Road in Hoover. Arc-Way Industries, which provides employment, is located at 228 1st Avenue North, and Arc North is located at 4017 Village Drive. Additional programs in Blount County are supported from an office in Oneonta.
In 2014 The Arc relocated its main offices from the Alice Pigman Center at 215 21st Avenue South to the former Salvation Army Youth Center in Crestwood. The organization took over programs for the Jefferson Blount St Clair Mental Health Authority that same year, and changed its name to reflect its expanded footprint in 2018.
