The Thirsty Donkey is a restaurant and bar at 4100 4th Avenue South in South Avondale. The business was founded in Coral Bay, St John, U.S. Virgin Islands by Greg and Kathy Stein in April 2017. That location was destroyed by Hurricane Irma that September.

After a brief stay in Puerto Rico the couple made their way back to Alabama. With help from outside investors, they reopened The Thirsty Donkey in the former Rowe's Service Station location in June 2019.

The restaurant's menu was developed by chef Katie Craig to feature Caribbean seafood as well as vegetable-centered dishes with optional protein additions. The restaurant's weekend brunch service, with live music, became popular.

In February 2020 the Steins sold the business to investor Charles Duggan. He terminated their employment in March and temporarily closed the restaurant in order to hire new managers and staff. The Spring Street Bar & Grill opened there in June.
