Town of Adam Brown
The Town of Adam Brown is a residential subdivision developed in 1978 by Lowder Realty in association with Better Homes and Gardens magazine. It is located along Old Stone Drive "off the High Road" in Inverness near the Inverness Country Club.
To market the concept for attached single-family homes, the planners published a booklet recounting "The Legend of Adam Browne", in which an English carpenter arrived at Richmond, Virginia in the 1770s and then, after siring 11 sons, moved his family to a large tract in the Southern part of the state and commenced to build a house. As each son came of age he built another house attached to the main house "to remind them of their brotherly love", and the tradition was continued with his grandsons and great-grandsons until a veritable township had been created. When the sons appeared before a judge to incorporate, they gave it the name "The Town of Adam Brown" (The judge left the final "e" off the official record.)
Also claiming similarity with the "town residences" of Europe's royal family, the planners offered attached homes of distinction, with individual front and back yards, as the center of a "new lifestyle for the very discriminating, not the very rich."
