U.S. Treasury building
The U.S. Treasury building or United States Department of the Treasury Debt Management Services in Birmingham is a 3-story, 87,786 square foot office building housing local offices of the United States Department of the Treasury at 1410 Reverend Abraham Woods Jr Boulevard (8th Avenue North) near the Birmingham Social Security Administration Center.
The building was announced as a $19 million project in 2011, and later budgeted at $33 million, but underwent several design revisions bringing the total cost to just under $46 million before construction began in late 2013. The Treasury office's 250 local employees relocated from Homewood after the building opened.
The building was developed by Corporate Realty Development and designed by KPS Group with input from the General Services Administration's "Design Excellence Committee". It was constructed with pre-cast concrete tilt-up panels on the exterior and incorporates energy-saving design elements with the aim of qualifying for "Energy Star" certification. Brasfield & Gorrie was the project contractor.
In late 2018 the building was purchased by an LLC affiliated with Easterly Government Properties of Washington D.C. for $22 million.
