Citing interviews and personal knowledge

This is a gray area. The goal for the site is to be a reliable first reference that puts things into context, leads people to the information they want, and ultimately steers them toward the authoritative primary and secondary references that can back it up.

That said, there is much more worth knowing about Birmingham than you'll find in any reference books. The burden of providing citations increases with the controversy or uniqueness of the claim. So for example, discussion of the degree to which Hugo Black participated in activities of the KKK would need good references, but the fact that a particular church operates a day care center is pretty safe. If you happen to find a News article or a link to a website that describes the elementary school plans, that would be great - but if not, don't worry about it. --Dystopos 14:06, 22 August 2006 (PDT)

Ahh... good to know... because there are several things I've wanted to add like that which are common knowledge, or personal knowledge at least, and I have been concerned about how to add them and play by "the rules" with regard to referencing. I'll try to find news & links where I can, though. --steph
