Verbena is an unincorporated community alongside U. S. Highway 31 and the CSX Railway in southeastern Chilton County on the outskirts of Clanton. It is named for the indigenous verbena wildflowers. The community was a popular resort for residents of Montgomery, particularly during outbreaks of yellow fever in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In its heyday the town had two hotels, a bank, post office and general store. Though most of those buildings are lost, the Verbena United Methodist Church remains as a local historic landmark.

Verbena's ZIP code is 36091. It is served by Verbena High School and the Verbena Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service. The smaller nearby communities of Cooper, Enterprise and Midway are often considered to be part of Verbena.
