The Warrior shiner (Lythrurus alegnotus) is a species of fish native to the Black Warrior River system in deeper pools above the fall line. Its habitat is threatened by strip mining operations and, though it is not officially protected its numbers are declining. The 2.5 inch long silvery fish spawns in late spring and early summer. The dorsal and caudal fins of the male turn from yellow to orange-red during the mating season.
