Waxahatchee Creek is a 21 mile long tributary of the Coosa River which drains part of southern Shelby County and forms part of its border with Chilton County as it empties into Lay Lake.

Waxahatchee Creek begins at the confluence of Big Creek and Wolf Creek west of Columbiana. It proceeds south and is joined by Camp Brach and Mud Creek west of Shelby. Where it joins with Buxahatchee Creek it bends eastward at the Chilton County line. Wash Creek and School Branch join the creek as it widens into Lay Lake, on the western border of Coosa County.
