What About Us is a non-profit organization founded by Sheree Kennon, a mother who lost her son, Detraio Whorton, to homicide in 2021.
The group has established partnerships with other local and national organizations to provide counseling services, food and monetary assistance, and practical help with paperwork and other unexpected burdens. What About Us also helps grieving families apply for benefits through the Alabama Crime Victims Compensation Commission and to lobby for more effective public safety laws.
In February 2023 the group hosted a "Stop the Bleed" first aid training led by trauma center personnel from UAB Hospital.
