Yaniv Attar

Yaniv Attar (born 1979 in Israel) is a classical guitarist and assistant conductor, holder of the Bruno Walter Conducting Chair, for the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. He leads the orchestra mainly during educational and community outreach programs.

Attar is a graduate of the Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem, the Royal College of Music in London and the Juilliard School in New York. He completed his doctoral degree in music at McGill University in Montreal. He has conducted the National Symphony Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony, Manhattan School of Music Orchestra and London Soloist Chamber Orchestra and performed with ensembles in England, Ireland, Germany, Italy and Romania.

Attar was selected from 59 applicants for the ASO's assistant conductor position in 2008. His first outreach performance took place at the Levite Jewish Community Center on September 17 of that year. In 2010 Attar received the Solti Foundation's Career Development Award, which is given every two years. He was already scheduled to leave the ASO that year.
