Zeigler Medical Research Building
The Rebel and Sophie C. Zeigler Medical Research Building is a ten story, 60,000 square foot research building located at 703 19th Street South. It was constructed in 1971 and named for Rebel and Sophie C. Zeigler. It is adjacent to the Lyons Harrison Research Building and is also connected to the Tinsley Harrison Tower. Designed by Davis, Speake & Associates and constructed by Robins Engineering, it was dedicated on October 6, 1971.
At the time that the building opened, it also had space allocated for the Cardiovascular Research and Training Center and the Institute of Dental Research.
The facility contains laboratories for UAB's Departments of Anesthesiology, Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics, Genomics & Pathobiology, Medicine, Microbiology, Pathology, Surgery, and the UAB Liver Center.
