Zennie Tomlinson

Zennie W. Tomlinson (born November 7, 1859 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; died January 26, 1934) was a stenographer and purchasing agent for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad and time-keeper for Birmingham Light & Power Company.

Tomlinson was the daughter of Major George Washington Tomlinson, who served with the 26th Pennsylvania Volunteers in the Civil War, and the former Sarah Dunlop McMahon. She began her career as a telegraph operator at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition in 1876. She came to Birmingham in 1887 and was the city's first stenographer. In 1910 she lived at 2915 Avenue G in Lakeview. By 1920 she served the railroad as a purchasing agent.

Tomlinson died in 1934 and is buried at Elmwood Cemetery.
