2016 Birmingham homicides
This is a List of Birmingham homicides in 2016. It includes homicide cases occurring within the city limits during the calendar year. Note that a "homicide" refers to the cause of death as determined by a medical examiner, not to the commission of the crime of murder as charged by police and prosecutors.
Four homicides have been reported in the city as of January 14, putting the city on pace for 104 for the year. Based on the 2014 census estimate of 212,247 population, that would represent 49.0 homicides per 100,000 residents. Birmingham had 96 homicides in 2015 and a record low of 62 homicides in 2014. The recent record high was 141 in 1992. At this time in 2015 there had been 3 homicides reported.
The city has averaged 8.9 homicides per month, or one every 3.5 days. There were 4 incidents so far in January. The longest stretch without a homicide was the 7 days between January 1 and 8. One violent death was reported on a Sunday, none on Mondays, none on Tuesdays, none on Wednesdays, 2 on Thursdays, 1 on a Friday and none on Saturdays.
Of the 4 reported homicides, suspects have been identified in 1 case, apprehended in 1, and charged in 1. The police department therefore acknowledges 4 chargeable homicides, of which 4 so far have been classified as murders.
At least two homicides took place inside homes, one on the street, and one at an apartment complex. Two were reported in the West Precinct, one in the East Precinct, none in the South Precinct and one in the North Precinct. One death was the result of a domestic dispute and another resulted from a robbery. Two victims were male and two were female.

- January 1: Tiffany Nolan, 33, was fatally shot at a home on the 3600 block of Pine Avenue in Southwest Birmingham. Antwan Scott claimed to have shot her accidentally after she refused to leave his home. He remained on the scene where he was taken into custody and later charged with murder. (report)
- January 8: Raven Terese White, 16, was shot during a robbery while sitting in a car with her boyfriend at Panorama East Apartments off of Center Point Parkway in Apple Valley. The boyfriend drove White, who was pregnant, to St Vincent's East, where she was later pronounced dead. No arrest. (report)
- January 10: Davarus Newby, 33, was shot to death at a house known for illicit activity on the 1100 block of 15th Street North. (report)
- January 14: Corey Walker, 28, was found shot to death just after midnight in a car on the 500 block of 16th Way Southwest. No arrest. (report)
