This is a List of Birmingham homicides in 2016. It includes homicide cases occurring within the city limits during the calendar year. Note that a "homicide" refers to the cause of death as determined by a medical examiner, not to the commission of the crime of murder as charged by police and prosecutors.

18 homicides have been reported in the city as of March 7, putting the city on pace for 98 for the year. Based on the 2014 census estimate of 212,247 population, that would represent 46.2 homicides per 100,000 residents. Birmingham had 96 homicides in 2015 and a record low of 62 homicides in 2014. The recent record high was 141 in 1992. At this time in 2015 there had been 18 homicides reported.

The city has averaged 8.1 homicides per month, or one every 3.7 days. There were 9 incidents in January, 6 in February, and 3 so far in March. The longest stretch without a homicide was the 14 days between January 29 and February 12. Five violent deaths were reported on Sundays, none on Mondays, 4 on Tuesdays, 1 on a Wednesday, 2 on Thursdays, 5 on Fridays and 1 on a Saturday.

Of the 18 reported homicides, suspects have been identified in 10 cases, apprehended in 9, and charged in 6. Two homicides were ruled justifiable by prosecutors. The police department therefore acknowledges 16 chargeable homicides, of which 16 so far have been classified as murders.

At least six homicides took place inside homes, eight on the streets, two in yards, and one at an apartment complex. Seven were reported in the West Precinct, two in the East Precinct, one in the South Precinct and six in the North Precinct. Three deaths were the result of domestic disputes, three others from ongoing grudges, and another resulted from a robbery. Fourteen victims were male and four were female.
