Thomas L. Hinson Jr (born March 1, 1947 is a former partner and chief financial officer for Strickland Trading Inc. who pleaded guilty to embezzling. He was previously a backup center for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team in the 1960s.
Hinson began working as an accountant for Strickland Trading in 1991, and was appointed CFO of the company in 2000. In 2007 he arranged for a friend to register a separate "Strickland Trading Company LLC". He stole checks made out to his employer and deposited them under an account set up for his similarly-named LLC, using the funds for personal expenses. He concealed the theft by falsifying financial documents at Strickland Trading Inc.
Hinson was investigated by the FBI and charged by federal prosecutors in January 2017 with wire fraud after stealing $11.3 million from the company over a period of nine years. He pleaded guilty in Judge Abdul Kallon's court in June of that year and was sentenced to just over eight years in federal prison and to repay $10.88 million in restitution.
