UAB Medical Center
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Medical Center is comprised of various entities located primarily in the Birmingham District.
The UAB Health System is comprised of 16 hospitals that include UAB Hospital (Main & Highlands) and the Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital. Seven of these hospitals are members of the UAB Health System. The Health System provides these facilities with governance, co-branding, recruitment, strategic clinical programs, and various operational support functions such as supply chain, revenue cycle, IT, compliance, insurance, and risk management. The remaining 9 hospitals are Affiliates. The UAB Health System partners with them on strategic clinical programs and collaborates with them on administrative functions, clinical programs, and patient advocacy. In addition, other medical entities include a Cancer Care Network and clinical outreach programs that increase the reach of clinical departments like neurology, ophthalmology, imaging, and CV.
On July 1, 2020 the UAB Health System formally entered into a strategic alliance with Ascension St Vincent's.
