1996 Birmingham homicides

This is a List of Birmingham homicides in 1996. It includes homicide cases occurring within the city limits during the calendar year. Note that not all homicides are ultimately ruled to be murder in courts of law.

Birmingham had 113 homicides in 1996, after 121 in 1995.

Listing

1. January 3: Muriel Ausley, 65, was found stabbed to death and mutilated on the floor of her Highland Manor apartment. Clarence Leland Simmons was convicted and sentenced to death in her murder. He died in prison in January 2013. (report)
2. A Phillips High School student was shot to death at his own home by Birmingham Police Officers during an investigation into a reported burglary.
