Independence Preparatory Academy is a planned K-8 charter school in Fairfield. It was founded by Calandra Sales, formerly of New Schools for Alabama and Building Excellent Schools. The Alabama Public Charter School Commission approved its charter by a unanimous vote in May 2023.

New Schools for Alabama has provided $300,000 to support the school's launch. Sales expects to have $2.45 million in start-up grants secured before opening. The tuition-free school plans to open for Kindergarten through 2nd grade students in 2024 and to add a grade each year.

In addition to regular coursework, students will have extra reading and math "acceleration" instruction in 40-60 minute blocks 4-5 times per week. Students will also complete "Eagle Quests", career-oriented special projects, twice each year.
