Bessemer Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a regional unit of what is popularly called the “Mormon Church” encompassing Bessemer and adjoining areas. Its offices are at 813 Briarwood Drive in Bessemer. The stake was founded on September 12, 1982.
As of 2013 the stake stretched from Cullman to Demopolis to the Mississippi state line.
In 2013, Peter M. Johnson became the stake president and made headlines as the first African-American to hold a stake presidency in Alabama.
