Lake Wilborn is a proposed 499-home subdivision on 480 acres in Hoover's Trace Crossings community. The residential development is a project of U. S. Steel and Signature Homes.

The property was once owned by Barney Wilborn, who constructed the Wilborn Lake dam. Wilborn, the first graduate of the Auburn University School of Architecture, donated the property to Auburn University in 1994. Its sale went to fund a new faculty position in the architecture school.

Originally approved by the Hoover Planning and Zoning Commission in 2007, the 2008 recession delayed work until 2013. Modifications to the original zoning plan were approved by the Commission in November 2012, but approval of a proposed on-site wastewater facility was tabled.
