Darren, I'm glad to see you're using redirects to try to make Bhamwiki a better research tool, but I thought I'd give a pointer about circular redirects.  An entry should not link to a redirect page that points back to that same page.  Altenate names should generally appear in bold.  For example, once you created the Banco Hispanico and Bank of Alabama redirects, it created two circular links on the Bank page, which I've now fixed by bolding them.  You might want to read the Wikipedia page on redirects.  All the Wikipedia specifics don't apply here, of course, but it gives a lot of good advice.  I look forward to reading more of your bank entries.  --Lkseitz 15:08, 24 October 2006 (PDT)

* Thanks, Lee... I was trying to get rid of all the redirects as I was doing the pages for the defunct banks, I just missed those.  I appreciate the reminder though, I am new to all this wiki stuff, so just bear with me.  --Wheresdib 19:34, 24 October 2006 (PDT)

Banks

 • Great work on filling in some big gaps with the bank articles. There's nothing I love more than seeing the wiki grow. I'm curious about Colonial Bank's history in Birmingham - did it absorb a local bank or just open a bunch of branches here? Since it's not based in the "District", we need to make sure to emphasize the local ties. --Dystopos 10:55, 6 October 2006 (PDT)
 • That's why I included the "several offices in the Metro area" blurb. If I am not mistaken, Colonial expanded into Birmingham several decades ago, but I am not sure if it absorbed any existing banks. This is one of the few local banks that I haven't worked for, so I don't know all of the history. I will expand the article and do more research later. Right now I am trying to hit all the banks that have a presence in Birmingham. --Wheresdib 11:00, 6 October 2006 (PDT)
 • Godspeed. --Dystopos 11:09, 6 October 2006 (PDT)
 • OK, I found a list of mergers and acquisitions for Colonial and added the first one I could tell was a Birmingham bank. I have also added a good number of the banks to the wiki, and will continue next week hopefully. --Wheresdib 14:32, 6 October 2006 (PDT)

The explanation is at Bhamwiki:Copyrights. Short version is that we're claiming a "Fair Use" under US Copyright law to reproduce logos, book covers, album covers, and magazine covers (at screen resolution) to illustrate articles on those topics. Any other work that is protected by copyright (which is pretty much anything published after 1923, with certain exceptions) can't be legally reproduced here without express permission. Because this encyclopedia is itself published under a free license, we should avoid reproducing work that has not been released under compatible terms (e.g. users of BhamWiki should be able to appropriate material for their own use). Therefore if you wish to upload your own work, it is most welcome. You will be given credit, but you will lose other rights by publishing it under the CC license. You can read the full text by clicking the link in the CC Image tag. --Dystopos 14:46, 23 October 2006 (PDT)

Redirects

Darren, I'm glad to see you're using redirects to try to make Bhamwiki a better research tool, but I thought I'd give a pointer about circular redirects. An entry should not link to a redirect page that points back to that same page. Altenate names should generally appear in bold. For example, once you created the Banco Hispanico and Bank of Alabama redirects, it created two circular links on the CapitalSouth Bank page, which I've now fixed by bolding them. You might want to read the Wikipedia page on redirects. All the Wikipedia specifics don't apply here, of course, but it gives a lot of good advice. I look forward to reading more of your bank entries. --Lkseitz 15:08, 24 October 2006 (PDT)
