On the national level it is the affiliated with The National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. Its offices are in Selma, Alabama. Organized in 1868 at a meeting in Montgomery, it was initially known as the Alabama Colored Baptist State Convention. It founded Selma University in 1878.
