The Falafel Café is a Mediterranean food located on 19th St S in Downtown Birmingham. The small restaurant is owned by a man named Moses Hassan who had been running the exact same restaurant before moving to Birmingham. Hassan has been living in Birmingham for 20 years. The Falafel Café is a popular dining hotspot for workers at the nearby UAB hospital and students at the local university. The restaurant serves a variety of authentic Mediterranean meats, dips and sides. Their two meat options (chicken or lamb) are stripped fresh off a broiler and served on top of rice with lentils. The side options include chopped salad, Jerusalem salad, red cabbage salad, sumac onions, tahini sauce, garlic sauce, shatta and pickles. A plate of falafel (a deep-fried ball of mashed chickpeas similar in texture to a hushpuppy) and authentic hummus with pita bread is also recommended.
