Olmsted Building
The Olmsted Building, originally the Professional Building, is an 8,100 square-foot professional office building at 1211 27th Place South, on the corner of Highland Avenue.
The building was constructed in 1960 for the diagnostic clinics of doctors Charles Crow, John Crow and Leon Smelo. The 5,000 square foot project was developed by MCM Corporation, designed by Greer, Holmquist & Chambers and constructed for $150,000 by W. R. Lunsford. The brown brick ranch-style office featured plate glass windows and brick planters, as well as on-site parking for patients behind a brick retaining wall.
Until 2020 the building housed a clinic and the headquarters offices of Planned Parenthood of Alabama. In 2023 the building was leased by the Faraway Theater to host improvisational performances.
