Established in 1856 when the first wife of William Washington Ellard, Nancy Montgomery Ellard, passed and a neighbor allowed her to be buried on his farm, the land was sold in 1888 and Nancy Ellard's remains were moved to the North West quarter of the North East quarter of Section 9, Township 17, Range 2 West, in Trussville.

In 1994, Nancy Ellard, along with fifty other relatives, were relocated to 1751 Gadsden Highway due to the expansion of the North-South runway at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.
