Al F. Hochstadter was a vice-president of the Goldberg Manufacturing Company and a member of one of the founding families of Temple Emanu-El.

Goldberg was a maker of cider and vinegar and bottler of beer on the corner of 20th Street and Avenue B in the 1880s. Bottles bearing Hochstadter's own name were made around 1888.

Hochstadter was a leader in the Iron Mountain Lodge No. 11 of the Ancient Order of United Workmen. His wife was a member of the Hebrew Ladies Benevolent Association.
