Avraham Shmidman

Avraham J. Schmidman (born 1971 in New York, New York) was the rabbi of Knesseth Israel Congregation from 1998 until the end of July 2007.

Schmidman, son and grandson of rabbis, grew up in Montreal, Canada. He earned his bachelor's in political science and master's in medieval Jewish history from Yeshiva University.

When he arrived at Knesseth in 1998, he soon began to push the congregation toward thinking about upgrading its facilities. Eventually the project resulted in a new $4 million synagogue on Overton Road. Shortly before its completion, Schmidman left to become the rabbi of the Lower Merion Synagogue in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania.
