Birmingham Iron & Metal was a metal recycling business specializing in steel products, including steel drums.

The company was founded in 1946 by Joseph Stein. In 1951, Stein was drafted for the Korean War. While he was serving, his parents oversaw the business. After his return, he was joined in the business by his younger brother, Gaston, in 1958. In 1964, the two started a new recycling business, H. S. Metals.
