Birmingham Pledge mural

The Birmingham Pledge mural is a large-scale painting on the east side of the Birmingham Police Headquarters at 1710 1st Avenue North. The mural's design, which depicts four boys, two white and two black, standing together next to the text of the Birmingham Pledge was the result of a competition won by Minor High School student Michael Richardson. The mural was dedicated on September 10, 2000 during Birmingham Pledge Week.

The mural was sponsored by the City of Birmingham, the Birmingham Museum of Art, the City Action Partnership, the Birmingham Police Department, Operation New Birmingham's Pledge Task Force, the Birmingham School System, Jefferson County School System, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, the U. S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Alabama, the U. S. Postal Service, and the General Services Administration.
