"Birmingham Terra Cotta" was an exhibition of architectural designs curated by UAB associate professor James Alexander. It was shown from November 2 to November 26, 1986 at the UAB Visual Arts Gallery.
The exhibit included Alexander's photographs of terra cotta facades and ornaments from seventeen buildings in downtown Birmingham, along with drawings and specimens from demolished buildings kept by local collectors. The latter included ornaments salvaged from the Tutwiler Hotel, Birmingham Terminal Station, and Molton Hotel.
Alexander, who had previously studied terra-cotta in the architecture of Chicago and Italy, received a grant from the Alabama State Council of the Arts and Humanities to support his documentation of Birmingham buildings.
