Bob Newton (born c. 1951) is the former head football coach for the Homewood High School Patriots from 1995 to 2005, during which time he amassed a record of 124-24 over 11 seasons and won five AHSAA Class 5A Championships.
Newton is a graduate of Russellville High School and Samford University. He came to Homewood in 1976 as an offensive line coach after three years at Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia. He was promoted to succeed Gerald Gann as head coach 19 years later. In 1995 he also took on the role of athletics director for the school. He missed the 2006 season with a staph infection that took hold during a surgical procedure. Dickey Wright was named interim coach that season. Newton returned for spring training, but stepped down as head coach in June 2007 and Wright became his permanent replacement. Newton retired from the athletics director position in 2009.
Newton was inducted into the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2007 and in 2009 the field at Homewood's Waldrop Stadium was named in his honor. Newton's wife, Jodi was superintendent of Homewood City Schools and his sons, Bert and Ross Newton are both coaches, at Mountain Brook High School and Samford University, respectively.
