Bob Newton was the head football coach for the Homewood High School Patriots from 1995 to 2007, during which time he amassed a record of 124-24 and won five AHSAA Class 5A Championships. He was inducted into the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame the year he stepped down and in 2009 the field at Homewood's Waldrop Stadium was named in his honor.
