The Butterfly Encounter is a 3,000 square-foot greenhouse containing over 600 butterflies from 20 native Alabama species at the Birmingham Zoo. The exhibit is opened to the public seasonally.

In 2007and 2008 the exhibit was sponsored by First American Bank. Originally located near the former site of the Bear Moat, in 2010 the exhibit was moved to Alabama Wilds.
