The Crestwood Civic Club was founded on September 17, 1953 with 18 charter members. The organization promoted civic projects benefitting Crestwood neighborhood and honored an outstanding citizen annually as "Mr Crestwood".

In 1970 the club sponsored the printing of bumper stickers reading "If You Don't Like Police, Call a 'Hippie' for Help" on behalf of the Alabama Peace Officers Association.
